Giving Tuesday - Dec.3, 2024

In 2023, we had a Giving Tuesday goal to raise $10,000.00 for our Future Leaders programming. Our expectations were blown out of the water by our generous supporters as we surpassed our goal and raised $11,330.00. These funds went towards K-12 environmental education in the Bow Valley, Ways of the Bison day, the first ever Not the End of the World event, and so much more!

This year, we are Shifting gears (pun intended) and putting the spotlight on our Shift: Climate Transitions program. Shift invites residents, visitors, and businesses to take local action to mitigate and adapt to climate change. We organize participatory public workshops and community-based projects and events on low carbon transportation, energy efficient buildings, renewable energy, and waste. With high hopes from last years successful fund raiser, we aim to raise $10,000.00 by the end of December. Funds earned from your donations will go towards our Home Energy Evaluation Toolkits, green transition events, and building community connections. Find out about how your donation will be used below!

Let's HEET things up!

We love it when our work tackles both the climate crisis and the affordability crisis! Next year we will work hard to circulate our free Home Energy Evaluation Toolkits, which homeowners like you can use to figure out simple things you can do to save money and cut down on greenhouse gases as you buy less costly heating fuel! We’re also working hard to support you in your bid to reduce greenhouse gases - AND the cost of clothing and gear - as you keep stuff in circulation. That’s why we’ll repeat our wildly popular Share and Repair Fair next year in Canmore, helping you  learn about repair and low-cost options for your household and recreational gear - we’ll even throw in a clothing swap! Last but not least, next year we’ll continue to give away unused bear spray to folks registered in the Affordable Services Program in the valley.

Green Events in the Bow Valley

When it comes to adopting new low carbon approaches – Seeing is Believing. Next year we’ll repeat our popular Green Buildings Open House, giving you the chance to visit green homes and buildings in the valley so you can see what they've done, ask questions, and maybe implement some of their good ideas where you live! Similarly, we hope to again bring a passel of delightful electric vehicles to the valley next year. Sure, seeing as believing - but we'll give you a chance to actually get behind the wheel and drive these vehicles, to help you decide if your next vehicle will be a low carbon hybrid or a full electric vehicle.

Community Connections

We are excited about connecting you to climate and energy transition topics so that you can learn – then do. Next year we will continue to organize and deliver our Climate Transitions newsletter and Earth Talks workshops - every single month! We’ll also roll out our new Climate Champions program, giving you the training and support you need to talk about climate - and climate solutions - with your family, neighbours, and friends.

A special thanks to YOU!

The Biosphere Institute would like to thank all of you for supporting the work we do. While donations are always appreciated, we understand that not everyone has the means to show their love financially. Whether you support us by coming to events, reading our newsletters, or donating, we are so grateful in knowing that our work is valued within the community.
