Featured Bow Valley Business: SkiUphill / RunUphill

SkiUphill/RunUphill believes that human-powered trail running and backcountry skiing are activities that promote greater respect and stewardship for the land. With this ethic in mind, the business is ambitious in their environmental goals: they purchase low/no VOC (volatile organic compound) paints, choose 100% green energy sourced from Bow Valley Power, are a 1% for the Planet Member, and host zero-waste days for staff, among many other actions.

SkiUphill has also attained Climate Neutral Certification. The process to become Climate Neutral Certified is a months-long effort to measure, offset, and reduce their carbon footprint. These are actions that all brands - and individuals - can and should take now to “flatten the curve” of carbon emissions. SkiUphill chose to act now because scientifically-vetted solutions to climatechangeexist, and they are accessible to brands like theirs.

As Cofounder of SkiUphill Gavin Harmacy said, “We understand that doing business does harm the environment and if we can help reduce or remove that harm we are moving in the right direction. To connect the dots, carbon emissions are the root cause of climatechange, and we understand how our activities lead to greenhouse gas emissions. Sustainability and the environment have been part of our DNA since day one, and today we’re thrilled that we’re able to join hundreds of Climate Neutral Certified brands in taking meaningful action for the climate."
