Water is Sacred

Giving Tuesday!

The buffaloberry has been the primary source of food for Alberta’s grizzly bears, for millennia. This year a cool spring followed by a very hot summer produced a sub-par buffaloberry crop, causing many bears to wander into our town to look for alternative foods. Due to the impacts of climate change, we can expect to see this happening more often in future years.

At the Biosphere Institute, we empower community leadership on environmental challenges, such as this, through programs like WildSmartSHIFT: Climate Transitions, and Future Leaders. Community action is what’s needed to ensure the future of our natural places in the face of increasingly frequent environmental challenges.

We are grateful to have a community that cares, which comes together and takes action on these issues.

We’re aiming to raise $5,000 by Tuesday, November 30th. This will help us continue working with the community to take action on environmental issues facing the Bow Valley and beyond.

Where the Water Goes
by David Owen

The Colorado River provides water for nearly 40 million people, but with climate change and booming populations, this river’s tap is close to running dry. Trace all that water to understand how we created this mess, but also how we can also pull ourselves out of it before the tap runs completely dry.
