Francesco Del Greco, an environmental engineering student at the University of Trento, Italy, is spending three months in the Bow Valley for his masters degree thesis. He is here to study wildlife crossing structures, as well as learn from the WildSmart Program about educating residents and visitors how to coexist safely with wildlife. In the Trentino Alto Adige region (Northern Italy) where he lives, human-wildlife conflict is very common. Farmers, ranchers, residents and tourists are dealing with large populations of brown bear, wolf and ungulates. Francesco is working with local experts, WildSmart, Alberta Environment and Parks, Parks Canada and with the Province of Trento to find a solution, exporting wildlife crossing structures and educational programs from the Bow Valley to Trento.
