About FireSmarting the Peaks of Grassi:
Simon and Wendy have both dedicated their efforts to making the Peaks of Grassi area more fire-resilient. Co-founders of the Peaks of Grassi FireSmart Committee, they are focused on helping the community take practical steps to reduce the risk of wildfires.

Attendees will learn:

  • Steps they can take to better protect their homes against the risk of wildfire.

  • The importance and value of setting up a FireSmart Committee in their neighbourhood.

  • The process and challenges involved in setting up a FireSmart Committee.

About the Presenters:

Originally from the UK, Simon has lived in Canmore’s Peaks of Grassi with his family since July 2020. Prior to moving to Canmore, Simon lived in Switzerland where he spent his career working in internationalhumanitarian response. For now, however, he’s focusing on issues much closer to home and is one of the co-founders of the Peaks of Grassi FireSmart Committee.

Also a co-founder of the Peaks of Grassi FireSmart Committee, Wendy has lived in Canmore and the Peaks of Grassi since 1998. She spent 23 years in non-profit sport in Calgary and is now the co-owner of Kumpfy Shoes and Repair. Her Ukrainian grandfather mined here in 1950's when he immigrated and she is an avid skier so Canmore has always felt special.
